Killed Mentor police officer identified; suspect pleads not guilty

Mentor authorities have released the identity of an officer who was killed in a hit-and-run crash on state Route 2 in Mentor about 1 a.m. June 24.Patrolman Matt Mazany, 41, was assisting another officer in a traffic stop at state Route 306 when a Jeep struck a police cruiser and then Mazany, Mentor police Chief Kevin Knight said at a June 25 news conference.

Wrong-way driver to blame for serious Kirtland Hills crash

The Ohio Highway Patrol on June 24 issued a news release stating a driver heading east in the westbound lanes of Interstate 90 in Kirtland Hills caused a two-vehicle wreck resulting in serious injuries shortly before 3 a.m. June 24.According to the release, Ohio Highway Patrol troopers were called to the scene of the wrong-way wreck about 2:56 a.
