NEW HAVEN -- Alexion Pharmaceuticals Inc. and a dozen other companies Gov. Dannel P. Malloy selected for his signature First Five initiative have added a net 3,759 new jobs and pledged to invest nearly $1.3 billion in Connecticut in the last five years.

 

Man robs Dunkin Donuts

WATERBURY -- A man robbed a Dunkin Donuts on East Main Street Monday night, police said.

A white man entered the coffee and donut shop around 9:30 p.m. and demanded cash from the register, police said. He didn’t display a weapon, but the clerk complied, handing the man an undetermined amount of money.

 

Traffic fatalities continued to surge in first half of 2016

WASHINGTON (AP) — Traffic fatalities were up 9 percent in the first six months of this year compared with the same period last year, continuing a surge in deaths that began two years ago as the economy improved and travel picked up, according to preliminary estimates released Tuesday by the National Safety Council.

Suspected bank robber apprehended

WATERTOWN -- Police have arrested a Meriden man suspected of robbing Webster Bank last week.

A man carrying a handgun entered the Straits Turnpike bank the morning of Aug. 16 and ordered a customer in the lobby back inside. He pointed the gun at the customer and told the tellers to give him cash, police said.

 

Name of Meriden crash victim released; search on for driver

MERIDEN, Conn. (AP) — Police have released the name of the person killed when a stolen car struck a tree in Meriden last week, but say they are still looking for the other occupant of the vehicle, who fled on foot after the crash.

 

Fairfield man arrested after Saturday fight at Oxford home

OXFORD — Police arrested a Fairfield man after a fight at a home on Pine Street Saturday night.
Theodore Guest, 25, of 53 Edge Hill Court, was charged with disorderly conduct and third-degree assault and released on $5,000 bond for a Sept. 12 court date.

 

Early passage of Watertown budget allows completion of hirings

WATERTOWN — The public school district has hired all its teachers for the new school year, according to Superintendent Bridget Carnemolla.
