A historic boat once used to ferry passengers to Boblo Island amusement park in the Detroit River caught fire at a marina where it was docked.Fire crews worked to douse the vessel with water Friday but it was engulfed in flames and smoke.How the fire started is still unknown.The boat is one of two that traveled for decades between Detroit and Boblo Island in Canada, about 15 miles away.

 

Mount Clemens party shooter sought, called 'armed and dangerous'

Macomb County Sheriff's officials are looking for a 25-year-old man whom they believe shot and killed a Clinton Township man early Thursday morning in a Mount Clemens neighborhood.A homicide warrant has been issued for Perry Bernard Rouse Jr. for the shooting death of Charlie "C.J." McGowan, 24, following a shootout in a cluster of rental housing northeast of Northbound Gratiot and North River Road, officials say in a news release this afternoon.

 

St. Clair Shores church deacon admits to stealing

A former deacon and business manager at a St. Clair Shores church was ordered to serve one-year probation for embezzling money from the parish.Michael Barthel, 56, received the sentence May 25 from Judge Joseph Oster of 40th District Court in St. Clair Shores, delivered immediately after Barthel pleaded guilty to embezzlement between $200 and $1,000, a misdemeanor.

 

Man admits to extorting girl over Snapchat

An 18-year-old man pleaded guilty to two charges for convincing a 13-year-old St. Clair Shores girl to send him a nude selfie over social media then blackmailing her.Hadi Cherri of Dearborn admitted in Macomb County Circuit Court on Thursday to extortion and accosting a child for immoral purposes in exchange for dismissal of two computer crimes, as part of a plea deal with Macomb prosecutors.

 

DNR and National Weather Service issue 'fire weather' warnings for weekend

Michiganders planning outdoor celebrations are encouraged to put fire safety first, due to the weekend's weather conditions.Fire weather danger is expected to be particularly high Saturday and Sunday, with increased wind speeds and low humidity in the forecast, according to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

 

Firefighters use pet oxygen masks to treat cats after Royal Oak fire

Royal Oak firefighters treated three cats with pet oxygen masks while responding to a fire Thursday morning in Royal Oak. According to a post on the Royal Oak Fire Department Facebook page, firefighters responded at 9:22 a.m. on July 5 to a basement fire in the 400 block of Wellesley.

 

Turning Point's new director has a 'passion for helping women'

Sharman Cobb-Davenport of Rochester Hills will replace the retiring Sue Coats as director of the Mount Clemens-based women's shelter Turning Point. It's not official until the end of the month, but on Thursday, the two were working together to make the transition a smooth one.
