Column: With its Janus decision, the Supreme Court corrected itself on First Amendment freedoms

WASHINGTON >> The Supreme Court is especially admirable when correcting especially deplorable prior decisions, as with the 1954 school desegregation decision rejecting a 1896 decision's "separate but equal" doctrine. It did so again last Wednesday, overturning a 41-year-old precedent inimical to the First Amendment.

The Richmond High School Trap Team has only been around for three years, but the 40-plus members ages 12-18 can already claim they are the best in the state. Members of the Richmond Board of Education honored the team at its June 25 meeting. Board President Margaret Teltow said seeing the team manage to be so successful and win the state championship in just three years is very impressive.

He remains tied with Dennis Martinez with 245 career victories.

 

Ask the lawyer: Prayer meetings at work not a good idea

Q: I work at a small design firm. About six months ago, the project manager began ending our meetings with a short prayer, which has expanded into a fairly lengthy prayer, asking for God's blessing on our work, and ending with an invocation to Jesus Christ. I do not believe in this kind of Christianity, and told the manager that it makes me very uncomfortable.
