Original musical 'Crayons' opens at D'Alto

Six years ago, Ashley Frary pulled an all nighter to write what would eventually become her first full length musical. Before opening its current location, D'Alto Studio of Performing Arts ran a summer theater camp for kids at Evansville Day School. It needed an original show to perform at the end of the weeklong camp — at that point, getting the rights to a written show was too expensive — and Frary was tasked with the job.

 

New exhibit opens at contemporary gallery

A new exhibit on display at the New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art explores the artist's views on the creation of invented worlds. "Envisioned Worlds: Lithographs from the Hokes Archives" opened at the end of July and will be on display through September 5 and features the work of Beauvais Lyons, a professor of art at University of Tennessee, Knoxville and director of the Hokes Archives. Lyons will also host a workshop and lecture at the University of Southern Indiana on August 28.

 

'Working Together' exhibit features regional art

The work of several regional artists will be on display at the Evansville Museum as part of a partner exhibition with the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana. "Working Together" -- an exhibition that juries the recent work of regional artists that is in its 22nd year — opens this weekend with a reception from 6 — 8 p.m. at the Evansville Museum. The exhibit runs through October 11.
