100 Years Ago - 1918: Water nymphs who appear daily in the Delaware off the Chester Shipbuilding plant have caused scores of workers to drop their tools and gaze for hours at the fair swimmers until the shipyard officials have asked the local police to call them out of the water on account of the time the workmen are losing.

Providence Animal Center Pet of the Week: Junior

6-month-old male Mixed Breed Meet Junior, the young fuzzy boy who is so excited to have the opportunity to find a great family who loves him. Junior is especially cute, with a love for life and loyal heart. He was rescued from a southern overcrowded shelter and brought to Providence Animal Center in Media, formerly the Delco SPCA, where he is waiting for Saturday, August 18 for Clear the Shelter Day, when he will be available at no fee.

 

Providence Animal Center Pet of the Week: Jadis

2-year-old female Domestic Shorthair Say hello to Jadis, the very beautiful cat who has found herself homeless and in need of someone to open their heart to her. She is a calico-colored girl, with the friendliest personality ever. She was rescued from a local overcrowded shelter and brought to Providence Animal Center in Media, formerly the Delco SPCA, where she is now waiting for a special soul to rescue her.

My name is Gage/ My foster mom believes I am a greyhound/Labrador retriever mix because of my build and speed. I am about 5 or 6 years old, house and crate trained, UTD on shots, HW negative. I am good with kids of all ages, but still learning my manners, so I might knock over a child under the age of 5-years old.

 

Come out to Clear the Shelters for a new pet Saturday

Providence Animal Center will be offering waived fee adoptions in participation with NBC10's Clear the Shelters event Saturday, Aug. 18, which is an annual effort hosted by NBC10/Telemundo. Last year, nearly 700 shelters participated in the waived-fee adoption event, and as a result, over 60,000 pets found forever homes.

 

'Hops & Helicopters Happy Hour' celebrates third year

Join the American Helicopter Museum and Education Center (AHMEC) Sept. 7, from 5-9 p.m., for a very hoppy happy hour. Hops & Helicopters, the museum's third annual BrewFest assembles local breweries, distilleries, cideries, wineries and even meaderies for a fun evening of tastings, music, Haute Wheels and The Meat House food trucks and more.

Today in History: August 15, 2018

100 Years Ago - 1918: A showcase outside the store of K. Schwartz, at Seventh and Welsh streets, Chester, was demolished last night when a touring car owned by Joseph Casey and driven by a lady companion crashed into the building. Mr. Casey and his companion had a narrow escape from being cut by flying glass.
