Special session drags on in Salem

There were more delays in Salem today over the complex package of bills comprising the so-called grand bargain, which would trim public pensions and raise taxes.Gov. John Kitzhaber called the special legislative session for Monday, hoping it would last a single day.

More closed-door bargaining in Salem

Gov. John Kitzhaber's push to have a one-day special legislative session disappeared today with lawmakers scheduled to take up a deal trimming public pensions and raising taxes again Tuesday.Little real action resulted after the session convened at 8 a. m. A series of delays and rescheduled hearings followed, with the first formal meeting of the legislative special committee at 3 p.m.
