Room taxes rise in Deschutes

July and August marked two of the best months on record for Deschutes County lodging tax collections, according to figures released Thursday by the Central Oregon Visitors Association.Hotels, motels and other lodging businesses outside Bend and Redmond generated about $915,000 in transient room-tax revenue in July, and $907,000 in August.

 

Report: Bend home prices up

Bend's median home price rose last month to its highest level in more than five years, according to a report released Thursday by the Bratton Appraisal Group.For a single-family home in Bend, the median price reached $298,000 in September, according to Bratton figures, up from $265,000 in August.

 

Closures

Monday is Columbus Day, a federal holiday.However, many federal offices are already closed due to the ongoing government shutdown.The U. S. Post Office, which is not affected by the shutdown, will be closed on Monday.However, city, county and state offices will be open for business, as usual, including local libraries.

Health People

•Dr. Mary Therese Rogers and Hailey Garside recently joined Central Oregon Pediatric Associates. Rogers is a board certified pediatrician and has practiced in Bend for three years in outpatient and hospital pediatrics.
