Sashay, a great dane and labrador mix, sat on a plastic chair and calmly watched as hundreds of parade participants passed her by.
Her owner, Homer Pillsbury, stood by her side, enjoying a parade that comes past his front porch every January.
Pillsbury and Sashay live on Highland Avenue in Beaumont's South Park neighborhood.
The annual Martin Luther King Jr. parade runs along Highland, so Pillsbury and other nearby residents and business owners have front row seats.
"It's like Mardi Gras but for Martin Luther King Jr.," Pillsbury said.

Vegas hotels aid Port Arthur Harvey victims

A furniture distribution for Harvey-impacted families was held at the Pavilion in Port Arthur Friday. Various organizations, including Business and Community Lenders of Texas, Neighbor Works, and Operation Blessing worked together under the coordination of Port Arthur native Billy Filer, and gathered furniture donations from several Las Vegas hotels. The pieces were distributed to 112 Port Arthur families who lost their homes and belongings in last year's flood.
