GATE CITY — Perhaps playing chess is not what most would find synonymous with a parks and recreation department. However, Scott County Parks and Recreation hopes to change that. For the second year in a row, the department, often known best for its summer clinics in tennis and golf, is also currently offering a chess clinic for children and teenagers between the ages of 10 and 18.Derrick France, director of the county's parks and rec department, says the chess clinic was the brainchild of Rob Sutphen.
