Letter: Trump is threat to security

The president appears to be very concerned about border security, but I think it’s a shiny object meant to distract us. If he were truly concerned about our nation’s borders, he would be looking at our political borders instead. If our politicians are taking money from foreign governments, or receiving help from them in any way on a campaign trail — or worse, employing their help on a campaign trail (Russia if you’re listening … Hillary’s emails …) — then we have no political boundaries and are therefore no longer our own country.

Jamie Herrera Beutler’s solution to the shutdown was not surprising coming from a Republican: give Trump everything he is demanding for the wall (even though we must borrow the $5 billion), and give Democrats what they already have through the courts: a solution for the Dreamers.

Murdock Trust grants money to arts groups

At the end of 2018, Vancouver-based M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust granted nearly $11 million to nonprofit groups, including two grants supporting the arts in Vancouver.
The Magenta Theater received $62,000 for new lighting, and the Native Arts and Cultures Foundation received $214,000 for new staff to establish communications programs. Washington was awarded 19 grants totaling $3,578,000.
