IOWA CITY — The University of Iowa has a 79-applicant pool of prospects angling to become its 22nd president, and a 21-member search committee is spending Friday poring over application materials in hopes of whittling the dozens down to a smaller group of semifinalists it will interview early next month.

 

Iowa’s unemployment rate remains at 3.6% in February

Iowa’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained at 3.6 percent in February, Iowa Workforce Development said Friday.While the number of unemployed Iowans increased from 58,000 in January to 58,300 to February, the number of employed Iowans increased by 3,200. Iowa’s labor force participation rate rose slightly from 65.5 percent to 65.6 percent.

The name Wanatee Creek is now official for the creek running through Linn County.Linn County announced the name change on Friday afternoon. The county was notified by the U.S. Board of Geographic Names on Friday that the name-change request was approved and the new name was entered into the Geographic Names Information System, according to a news release.
