PORTLAND Diocese raises over $62,000 for faith-in-action program Diocese of Portland parishes and schools partnered to raise more than $62,000 for the Catholic Relief Services’ Rice Bowl program during Lent this spring. CRS Rice Bowl is a faith-in-action program that encourages Catholics to fill cardboard bowls with monetary donations, giving alms to those in need and honoring Jesus’ call to serve our neighbors. Over 50 Catholic parishes, schools and groups in Maine participated in the 2018 program, contributing a total of $62,312.57. Cumberland County panel awards $68,000 in grants The Cumberland County Committee of the Maine Community Foundation has awarded more than $68,000 in grants to 13 nonprofits, including ProsperityME: The Center for Financial Education, which works to provide equitable housing for asylum seekers and refugees. Other grant recipients include Harpswell Heritage Land Trust and Pine Tree Legal Assistance. The Cumberland County Fund is a permanent endowment that supports projects and nonprofits that strengthen communities.
