Book Club of California marks centennial Whether celebrating the 100th year of the Book Club of California, the Paris Review at City Lights, or the wit and wisdom in the new "Collected Interviews With Robert Duncan," local lit lovers have many reasons to be thankful for October. Fine Printing & the Cultural History of the Book in California, which begins Thursday and spans the weekend, with events including a pop-up bookshop - presenting works by the weekend's featured authors, book artists and presses - as well as a collectors forum, a gala dinner, retrospectives and lectures looking toward the future of the book. The Paris Review comes to Tosca Cafe on Thursday, in conjunction with Picador Books and City Lights Booksellers, to present "Object Lessons," a new collection of short stories originally published in the literary journal. Writers With Drinks assembles a cast that includes New York Times columnist Nick Bilton, comedian Deb Campo, author Rubén Martínez ("Desert America") and writer Carol Quinn, who composed the graphic novel "Pink Flamingos" and the young adult series "Palm Beach Prep."
