Bill aims to lift limits on school police officers Associated Press Copyright 2013 Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed. Updated 5:12 am, Wednesday, March 6, 2013 Current law restricts the duties of school police officers and limits their jurisdiction to school property unless they are in hot pursuit of a criminal, at a school function or issuing traffic citations on the streets adjacent to school property. The bill also repeals a requirement for school police officers in counties with populations over 100,000 — currently only Washoe County and Clark County — to transfer investigations of category A felonies to a primary law enforcement agency.
