Bernalillo County plans to seek funding for two memorials that would honor officers killed in the line of duty – one at Arroyo del Oso in Northeast Albuquerque and one in the East Mountains village of Tijeras. The sites were among three recommended by a committee representing local public safety agencies and family members of fallen officers. Commissioners opted to remove from consideration the third potential location, at Tingley Beach, after the city government said a memorial didn’t fit with a new master plan for the area. The commission also wrestled with whether to narrow the list even further and pick just one site for the Public Safety Officers’ Memorial. Commissioner Wayne Johnson argued in favor of both locations.
