Many opera lovers feel the impatient need to extend the repertoire beyond the usual circle of tried-and-true favorites, but few have gone to such heroic lengths as soprano Céline Ricci and her young operatic troupe Ars Minerva. Its mission is to resuscitate long-forgotten works from the Baroque, and the latest project brings back a tale of witchcraft for the first time in more than 350 years. “La Circe,” by the Venetian composer Pietro Andrea Ziani, was premiered in Vienna in 1665, then consigned to the archives until now.
