Aurora’Mayor Pro Tem Dustin Zvonek is resigning from the City Council at the end of October, one year before the end of his term. Zvonek announced his resignation during an Aurora council meeting Monday and did not go into detail about why he was leaving. “Sometimes in life, you get thrown a curveball, or in my case, it was several all at once, and after much reflection and a few tough conversations I’ve made a decision that’s in the best interest of my family,” Zvonek said in a brief statement during the meeting. Zvonek was elected to an at-large council seat in 2021 and is the founder and president of a consulting firm. Zvonek thanked the rest of the council and city staff for their hard work and cited programs like Build Up Aurora and the city’s work-first homeless initiative as successes during his tenure. “Every single one of my colleagues genuinely cares about the city and its people and pours their hearts into their work, even when it seems like we’re talking past each other,” he said. Mayor Mike Coffman thanked Zvonek for his service on the council.
