The largely mosquito-borne1 virus has spread to more than 20 countries and territories in the Americas since it arrived in Brazil about a year ago, and there’s concern that it’s threatening the fetuses of pregnant women. Zika’s symptoms for those infected are typically mild, but it has been linked to an increase in birth defects and neurological conditions.
