Eighteen orange ribbons were tied along the fence outside the East Henry Street church Wednesday, each a tribute to a Chatham County resident killed in gun violence this year. As the Rev. Billy Hester, pastor at Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church, read the victims’ names, ages and dates of death before a gathering of about 50 people, a single church bell chimed. Finally, church administrator Randy Canady, tied the 19th ribbon for Rosalyn Marie Chapman, 62. The accounting was complete. “We’ve been wanting to do something about gun violence here for quite a while,” Hester said.
