KINGSPORT — Wanted: welders, electricians, millwrights, scaffold builders, carpenters and others for construction trades.About 120 career technical education high school students from three area school systems converged on the Kingsport Farmers Market for a Construction Career Fair on a rainy Wednesday morning.The students went from exhibit to exhibit, learning about job opportunities from area industries and businesses and educational ones from area colleges, as well as driving safety simulators thrown in for good measure from Wellmont Health System, Mountain States Health Alliance and BAE.Cindy Necessary, in human resources for Eastman Chemical Company contractor Brock Service LLC, said this marked the second such fair, the first one being last fall.It was sponsored by Brock and Build Your Future, a program of the National Center for Construction Education and Research or NCCER.Among the exhibits were ones by the Regional Center for Advanced Manufacturing downtown, which brought welding, painting and lathe simulators,“We have a lot of openings,” Necessary said.
