By Kassondra Cloos kassondra.cloos@gazette.com -A surprisingly icy morning for an otherwise warm spring caused major car crashes on Friday that brought traffic in some Pikes Peak region areas to a halt. Early Friday morning, cars piled up by the dozens. Up to 20 vehicles were involved in a single crash on southbound Academy Boulevard at Highway 85 south of Colorado Springs, according to Gazette news partner KKTV. Ten to 15 cars piled up on Mesa Ridge Parkway over Highway 85 in Fountain.
