Alamosa sheriff’s deputies shot at and injured an armed suspect attempting to flee law enforcement early Wednesday morning, sparking an investigation. Justin Claude Trujillo, 28, fired a handgun at deputies before all three returned fire, striking Trujillo twice, according to a Wednesday news release from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. Trujillo was shot once in the abdomen and once in the leg before deputies provided medical aid and took him into custody at a local hospital, the release stated. The 28-year-old was later transferred to a Colorado Springs hospital, where he is stable, CBI officials said. The sheriff’s department arrested Trujillo on suspicion of first-degree attempted murder of a peace officer, first-degree assault, vehicular alluding, menacing and weapons-related offenses — all felonies. The three deputies involved in the arrest have been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation, CBI officials said in Wednesday’s release. Deputies from the Alamosa Sheriff’s Office originally responded to reports of a red Ford Explorer driving carelessly in a Safeway parking lot around 12:06 a.m.
