Ableism Still Excludes Too Many From The Workplace. Here’s How I’m Changing That

Google has pledged to invest 36 billion baht ($1 billion USD) into Thailand to build a data center to support the demand for AI and cloud services in Southeast Asia. The announcement came on Monday (September 30) with the first data center to be located in Chonburi, on the country’s eastern coast. This news comes after Google Cloud shared plans in August of 2022 to bring its first cloud region to Thailand.

An AI system called Future You, developed by researchers from MIT, allows people to talk with an older version of themselves. As part of an attempt to reduce anxiety and help young people make better choices,  Future You offers an AI-generated version of yourself to talk to. It comes in the form of a text-based conversation of a potential future simulation and hopes to improve young people’s sense of future self-continuity. Having a stronger connection with your future self is thought to improve how people make long-term decisions, such as contributing to financial savings or focusing on academics. How does Future You work? The large language model pulls on information provided by the user to create a virtual version of them at the age of 60.

Google has launched an ‘AI Opportunity Agenda’ which gives recommendations for how European governments can harness AI to drastically boost their economic output. Research by Implement Consulting Group, commissioned by the search giant, suggests that AI can boost the continent’s economic growth, competitiveness and productivity. The report estimates that generative AI “could add €1.2-1.4 trillion ($1.3- $1.6 trillion) to the EU’s GDP in 10 years – the equivalent to an annual growth rate of 8%.” This comes after former Italian Prime Minister and renowned economist, Mario Draghi, published a paper detailing how Europe’s competitiveness has nosedived over the past few decades, with the EU’s share of global GBP having shrunk from over a quarter in 1980 to just 17% today. US productivity surpassed the EU’s by 20% in 2022.

If you are missing a couple though, you will be able to purchase some from merchants too so make sure you’re visiting these vendors to complete the full list. The Google Lens video feature first announced at I/O 2024 appears to now be rolling out to more Android users. The search tool enables people to discover content based on a photograph or a video. When you search with a video, for example, it’ll bring up related content to help you identify objects, discover similar products, and find visually similar images. Users can record a short video and ask the tool questions about it.
