In 1971 when setting up the ASHS, the Waler became the foundation stock of the Australian Stock Horse.A Waler is not actually a breed, but a name coined by the British, and actually meant any stock bred in Australia before the end of the Second World War. Walers were a popular, and very sucessful cavalery mount, due to their hardiness, and resistance to disease.
