This region is the combination of two world regions, Australasia and Oceania. Australasia contains the countries of Australia and New Zealand, and their associated islands and archipelagos. Oceania contains several island groups in the central and south Pacific ocean. These groups are Micronesia, Melanesia, and Polynesia. The Australasia and Oceania regions collectively covers a land area of 3,285,048 square miles. The combined area extends 2000 miles (3200km) North - South and 2500 miles (4000km) East - West. Most Western point is Steep Point in Western Australia. (113 degrees East) Most Northern point is Eastern Island, Midway Islands. (28 degrees North) Most Easterly point is Clipperton Island. (109 degrees West) Most Southerly point is Macquarie Island, New Zealand. (54 degrees South)
