GAINESVILLE — Playing football as a kid in Jacksonville, Jack Pyburn grew up around the Florida-Georgia game and came to appreciate the rivalry’s magnitude.
“I’ve been to that game my entire life,” the Gators’ edge rusher said Monday. “It’s where I’m from. It’s my home.
“That game, it meant everything.”
Some things never change.
The stakes will be high when the surging Gators (4-3, 2-2 SEC) and unshakeable Bulldogs (6-1, 4-1) meet Saturday at EverBank Stadium. Loser of three consecutive meetings, Florida seeks to end Georgia’s dominance, derail coach Kirby Smart’s push for a third national title in four seasons and bolster coach Billy Napier’s case for a fourth season in Gainesville.
Gators edge rusher Jack Pyburn, who leads the Gators with 35 tackles, is a Jacksonville native who grew up watching the Florida-Georgia game.

Palm Beach County is taking steps to ensure golf courses and parks never encroach on dozens of designated “natural areas” across the county: There are about 31,800 acres of untouched land, rich with South Florida’s flora and fauna.
The county’s effort was partly brought on by the state’s now-scrapped controversial plan to make changes to state parks, such as adding golf courses and pickleball courts, among other considerations, to some sites.
The county’s Environmental Resources Management department presented a proposal to county commissioners recently about adding permanent protections to each of the 38 county-owned natural areas.
“In the face of increasing development pressures, the county’s current protections may not be sufficient to guarantee the perpetual preservation of these unique native lands,” county staff wrote in county documents.
“Therefore, partnering with and granting conservation easements to conservation land trusts is being proposed as an effective tool to provide additional perpetual protection to these native lands.”
Conservation Florida, a nonprofit land trust dedicated to the protection of water, wildlife and wild places, will work with the county to create private conservation easements for each of the 38 natural areas.
The County Commission has “empowered the staff of the county to collaborate with Conservation Florida to explore the use of conservation easements on their natural land,” Conservation Florida CEO Traci Deen said.

A northern Minnesota woman accused of trying to submit a mail ballot for her recently deceased mother has been charged with three felonies, showing how routine election safeguards thwart rare instances of attempted voter fraud.
Officials in Itasca County, about 200 miles (322 kilometers) north of Minneapolis, said Monday that the improper vote was caught because the state provides a monthly list of people who’ve died to election officials, who then flag those names in the state’s voter registration database.
CORAL GABLES — Miami Hurricanes linebacker Wesley Bissainthe is good to go after leaving Saturday’s win over FSU with an injury, UM coach Mario Cristobal said Monday.
“Wesley is full go,” Cristobal said, “100 percent.”
Bissainthe played the first three quarters and had six tackles in the victory. So far this season, Bissainthe has 36 tackles, two tackles for loss and an interception.
The bigoted rant against Puerto Ricans at former President Donald Trump’s Sunday rally in New York City drew swift condemnation in Central Florida, considered the heart of the state’s Puerto Rican community.
The comments by a comedian who spoke before Trump were denounced by residents who called them an unfair slap against the island.
