Goodreads Top 100 Stage Plays of All Time Please vote for your favorites and voice your agreement or disagreement with the list. There were so many great plays it was a challenge to identify only 100 -- Shakespeare properly occupies a significant section of the list and a strong argument could well be made that every one of his plays should be on this top 100 list. 12/6/2024 - 7:04 am | View Website
As companies race to build more powerful AI, safety measures are being left behind. A report published Wednesday takes a closer look at how companies including OpenAI and Google DeepMind are grappling with the potential harms of their technology. It paints a worrying picture: flagship models from all the developers in the report were found to have vulnerabilities, and some companies have taken steps to enhance safety, others lag dangerously behind.
Donald Trump’s success with men—especially Latino men and young white men—has caused handwringing among Democrats. Some have charged that the party has abandoned male interests, or even taken to treating men derisively, with disastrous consequences. According to John Della Volpe, director of polling at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, these men are not radicals or incels.

PITTSBURGH — Many Americans consider social media a scourge, but for a home cook, it can be a fun and informative place to get help deciding what to eat.
Sure, some of the recipes would-be influencers recommend are in fact pretty abominable — check out @chefreactions on TikTok, Instagram or X for many, many examples — but I have stumbled across some pretty good recipes on many occasions, too.

PITTSBURGH — There’s a universality to the charm of carrots.
Daucus carota come long and slender, short and squat and everywhere between. Nowadays, carrots are typically orange — the product of careful cultivation by Dutch farmers in the 16th and 17th centuries — but you can find a rainbow of purple, red, white and yellow carrots at the markets, too.

A woman reported missing in July was found dead in Boulder County and her boyfriend is the prime suspect, sheriff’s officials said.
Andres Eloy Martinez Perez, 31, was arrested Friday on suspicion of first-degree murder and domestic violence in the death of his girlfriend, 37-year-old Gaudy Garcia Pina, according to Boulder sheriff’s officials.
Pina’s body was discovered in a field northwest of Lyons in September, but investigators struggled to identify her.
(WASHINGTON) — The FBI should have done more to collect intelligence before the Capitol riot even though the bureau did prepare for the possibility of violence on Jan. 6, 2021, according to a watchdog report Thursday. It also said no undercover FBI employees were present that day and none of the bureau’s informants was authorized to participate.

The report from the Justice Department inspector general’s office knocks down a fringe conspiracy theory advanced by some Republicans in Congress that the FBI played a role in instigating the events that day, when rioters determined to overturn Republican Donald Trump’s 2020 election loss to Democrat Joe Biden stormed the building in a violent clash with police.
The review was released nearly four years after a dark chapter in history that shook the bedrock of American democracy.
Though narrow in scope, the report aims to shed light on gnawing questions that have dominated public discourse, including whether major intelligence failures preceded the riot and whether anyone in the crowd was for some reason acting at the behest of the FBI.
