More than 400 homes were temporarily without power Friday morning after a power line was knocked down and caught fire, officials said. Crews were called to repair a fallen power line that caught fire in the area of Ridgefield Road and Tartan Drive in Crystal Lake. ComEd workers were at the scene at 8:47 a.m., along with officials from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office and Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department, Sheriff's Deputy Mike Stadler said. Traffic was temporarily blocked off in the area while repairs were underway. Strong winds likely caused the power line to fall and spark the small blaze that ignited on the side of the road, Stadler said. Crystal Lake firefighters extinguished the fire by 9:30 a.m. ComEd’s power outage map said there were 471 people without power Friday morning in the area where the power line was down.
