WHAT’S UP DOC? Compartment syndrome

Q: My daughter’s doctor said she might have compartment syndrome. What is this?A: The muscles of the arms and legs are divided into compartments by strong fascial membranes. There are four compartments in the lower leg (the most common site for compartment syndrome), four in the forearm, as well as compartments in the upper arm, thigh, abdomen, behind the eye, in the hand, foot, buttock, and thorax.
