The next chapter in the Waldo Canyon recovery has begun, with the reopening of the Waldo Canyon burn area for the first time since the historic fire ravaged the area in 2012. PSICC Order 16-30, which goes into effect Thursday, lifts public access restrictions on the burn area. The Waldo Canyon Trail and trailhead on Highway 24 will continue to be closed for public safety, the Pikes Peak Ranger District said. "We are proud of the massive recovery effort the Forest Service, partners, and the community has poured into Waldo and happy that we are finally able to open the area as hunting season gets going," said District Ranger Oscar Martinez.
