Roblox opened a door into virtual reality on Friday by making its popular youth-oriented online video gaming platform compatible with the Oculus Rift headset. With more than 20 million players a month, Roblox is laying claim to the title of world’s largest social virtual reality destination, even though the universe of Rift owners who can benefit is still tiny. [...] executives at Roblox — which is also working on making its platform compatible with the HTC Vive, Samsung’s Gear VR and Sony’s PlayStationVR — believe the future of the company lies in virtual reality. Roblox’s users, mainly ages 8 to 18, can create their own video games for themselves and others to play. The Rift experience “is the difference between watching a game on a computer and being in a full-scale Roblox amusement park,” Baszucki said.
