MAIDUGURI, Nigeria (AP) — Witnesses say a bomb blamed on Boko Haram Islamic extremists killed at least 24 people and wounded 60 at a village market in northeastern Nigeria.Tuesday's bombing is the latest in a string of bombings and village raids that have killed hundreds in the space of weeks, as officials promise the deployment of a regional army to halt a Nigerian-born Islamic uprising that has killed some 20,000 in six years and spilled across the West African nation's borders.A spokesman for a civilian self-defense group, Abbas Gava, said their volunteers collected 20 bodies and body parts from four others after the afternoon explosion in Sabon Gari village.A nurse at Biu hospital 25 miles (40 kilometers) away said they received more than 20 burned bodies and are treating 41 survivors.Join the conversation about this story »
