The Village of Cary's handling of a harassment investigation during closed-door meetings has raised concerns about whether officials violated the Open Meetings Act. In reporting the story behind a law firm's report calling a trustee’s behavior “harassing, derogatory and unprofessional," the Northwest Herald learned of at least one executive session meeting where a majority of board members requested that the village explore whether that document could be rescinded, destroyed and kept from the public. "During executive session we voted to not have this go public," Trustee Jennifer Weinhammer said in a text. Because the Open Meetings Act prohibits public officials from taking action with a vote in closed meetings, the Northwest Herald asked Weinhammer to clarify her statement about voting in a closed session. "My apologies," Weinhammer said in a text.
