The U.S. Department of Agriculture began making safety net payments Tuesday “due to market downturns during the 2015 crop year,” The payments will total more than $7 billion, and more than 1.7 million farms are enrolled in the Agriculture Risk Coverage or Price Loss Coverage programs, including many in the Texas Panhandle. read more
