Us Writer Detained In Cameroon Meets With Lawyer

A Cameroonian-American writer and university professor detained in the Central African nation was in good spirits after meeting with a lawyer, a colleague said Friday after communicating with the man's wife through email. Patrice Nganang, who teaches at Stony Brook University's cultural studies and comparative literature department in New York, was detained Thursday as he tried to leave Cameroon after criticizing the government, according to the advocacy group PEN America.
