The Switch 2 is probably one of the worst kept secrets in the gaming industry right now with leaks coming out almost daily.
While most of these have been from individuals releasing snippets of info here and there, maybe accompanied by the trademark blurry image, CES 2025 has given us probably the clearest look yet at the next-generation Nintendo console.
Genki Switch 2 accessories revealed alongside physical console replica
This ‘reveal’ comes thanks to Genki — a pretty well-known accessories manufacturer in the gaming space — that has not only announced it will be making Switch 2 compatible products with accompanying 3D renders, but also giving us a physical look at them on replica hardware.
Taking a glance at the 3D renders — which can be found directly on the Genki website — these show how the new Joy-Cons will attach to the console.
Instead of the rail system that is on the current Nintendo Switch system, the Switch 2 utilizes a slot and locking mechanism that is accessed by a button next to the Joy-Con trigger.
This was shown to be the case in an earlier leak but thanks to this reveal, it’s all but confirmed to be the real deal.
The render video also gives us a sneak peek into that rumored IR sensor on the Joy-Con which fuels the fire on it being able to be used as a mouse.
Moving to the physical replica unit(s) at the CES 2025 exhibition, these appear to be 3D-printed dummies of the Switch 2, complete with detachable Joy-Cons, that obviously don’t work but still showcase how they clip on via magnets.
Genki (who makes gaming accessories for the Switch and other hardware) claims the Switch 2 will launch in April.
It’s not like we didn’t know it was coming and it was just a a case of when, but that when is now, and as of a joint announcement from Valve and Lenovo we know that the first hardware to officially run Steam OS outside of the Steam Deck itself will be the sexily titled Lenovo Legion Go S (8”, 1) Powered by SteamOS
Now for us, you can never have too many brackets in your product name – they just ooze excitement, but the real story here is that Valve finally is ready to uinleash its gaming Operating System onto hardware from others that would traditionally pack a much bloatier Windows 11 install.
There will still be versions of the (Legion) (GO) from (Lenovo) that will come pre-packed with Windows as well but this is a huge warning shot across Microsoft’s bows that its days of only having to worry about a version of Linux that only nerds loved is well and truly over.
Lenovo says of its new Steam machine, “This new handheld combines the powerhouse features of the Lenovo Legion Go S (8”, 1) with the flexibility and console-like experience of SteamOS, Valve’s operating system that is optimized for gaming.
