For 42 minutes, UCF looked like a Big 12 powerhouse. The Knights flashed speed and athleticism, jumping out to a 21-0 lead over Baylor in its conference home opener in front of a packed house at FBC Mortgage Stadium Saturday. Everything was going according to plan — and then it wasn’t. Baylor scored 29 straight points in the final 18 minutes capped off by Isaiah Hankins’ 25-yard field goal with 1:21 left that gave the Bears a 36-35 win, leaving fans stunned and sending UCF to its first 2-game losing streak. It was the largest comeback allowed in program history. “I’m really disappointed for our fan base,” said UCF coach Gus Malzahn.
