University of Akron students banded together Tuesday to make sure the name of a fellow student who was killed in December is heard around the world. A memorial service and charity event were held in a Student Union ballroom in honor of Zakareia “Zak” Husein, who was shot during a robbery at his family’s pizza shop in Akron’s North Hill neighborhood.About 200 volunteers geared up in hairnets and gloves to package 40,000 meals for Stop Hunger Now, a nonprofit organization that helps distribute meals and provides aid to vulnerable areas around the world.Justin Cohen, the president of Wanderlust, a student group Husein was part of, organized the event after he heard the impact his death left on the community.“We knew that if Zak could be honored in any way, it would be giving to others,” Cohen said.
