President Donald Trump on Thursday will announce that the opioid crisis is a public health emergency — a move that is narrower in scope than what his opioid commission had recommended and does not include new funding, senior administration officials told reporters. Officials said acting HHS Secretary Eric Hargan will sign the declaration on Thursday which will allow public health agencies to re-direct existing resources to the crisis, cut "bureaucratic delays" in hiring personnel and expand access to telemedicine services for remote prescribing.
