By Emma Crawford Kent Daily Journal TUPELO – The Tupelo Public School District plans to add more classes to its pre-kindergarten program at the King Early Childhood Education Center for the upcoming school year. A recently-completed six-classroom addition at ECEC was built for the purpose of reaching more of Tupelo’s four-year-olds, but the district must ensure it has the funds available to support more students before deciding on the exact number of classes the school can add. The new classroom building on ECEC’s campus cost $2.1 million and was funded by the district’s $44 million bond issue. It has been complete since December, although ECEC did not add more staff or students in the current school year. TPSD Superintendent Gearl Loden said at this point, the district’s intent is to add three or four classes at ECEC for the 2017-18 school year. Currently, there are 210 students enrolled at ECEC.
