Today Was vs Today Is Today means "the current day", so if you're asking what day of the week it is, it can only be in present tense, since it's still that day for the whole 24 hours. In other contexts, it's okay to say, for example, "Today has been a nice day" nearer the end of the day, when the events that made it a nice day are finished (or at least, nearly so). 12/26/2024 - 6:07 pm | View Website

word choice Neither are clauses, but "today in the afternoon" is grammatical (adverbial phrase of time), while "today afternoon" is not. I would also suggest "this afternoon" as a more succinct and idiomatic alternative to "today in the afternoon". 12/25/2024 - 6:06 am | View Website
Some quotations from Jimmy Carter:
We have a tendency to exalt ourselves and to dwell on the weaknesses and mistakes of others. I have come to realize that in every person there is something fine and pure and noble, along with a desire for self-fulfillment. Political and religious leaders must attempt to provide a society within which these human attributes can be nurtured and enhanced.
Jimmy Carter, the former president who died Sunday at age 100, was best known for his post-presidential humanitarian efforts at home and around the world, and his work advancing democracy and peace.
He also made a big difference to Florida — and Florida made a big difference to him.
Carter burst into the national conversation almost five decades ago, with a strong showing in the 1976 Iowa presidential caucuses, providing him with crucial attention and a burst of momentum.
But he might not have made it much farther, to the Democratic presidential nomination and to the White House, without Florida.
Winning the state’s presidential preference primary on March 9, 1976, helped propel him to the nomination.

Former President Jimmy Carter, a man who redefined what a post-presidency could be, died Sunday. He was 100.
Carter, who lived longer than any other U. S. president, entered home hospice care in Plains, Georgia in February 2023 after a series of short hospital stays.
The only Georgian ever elected to the White House, Carter left office after a single term that was highlighted by forging peace between Israel and Egypt, but was overshadowed by the Iran hostage crisis.
