Another day, another round of Switch 2 leaks and speculation ahead of the imminent reveal from Nintendo itself.
This time, there have been core details of the Switch 2 GPU leaked, pointing to power that supersedes what many have been thinking in comparing it to the PS4 and instead, it may be more in line with the Xbox Series S.
Switch 2 performance potentially comparable to Xbox Series S
The latest leak comes from data miner ZachyCatGames on Famiboards, who has suggested that the Switch 2 GPU will have 3.09 Teraflops of computing power when in docked mode.
The Xbox Series S boasts a number slightly higher than that of 4 Teraflops but considering we have the vast majority of current-gen games running smoothly at native 1440p, it sounds like the Switch 2 could be a serious upgrade over its predecessor.
Obviously, this raw power does decrease when you’re in handheld mode with the leaks pointing to an almost 50% drop, down to 1.72 Teraflops.
However, with the rumored NVIDIA DLSS being a major helper in creating performance boosts, we should see titles in high fidelity no matter if you’re out and about.
Teraflops aren’t everything and you need a combination of other internal hardware and software to create a well-rounded machine that can handle it all.
The reason why we’re mentioning this is because the new CPU was also mentioned in this leak, coming in at around 1000 MHz which could bottleneck some CPU-intensive ports.
This shouldn’t be a large number of games affected — since most use the GPU as the main component — but it’s worth mentioning all the same.
With the official Switch 2 reveal apparently occurring January 16, 2025, we’re sure we’ll know all of the real specs in due course.
Let’s just hope these alleged numbers aren’t too far off, otherwise many will be set up for some serious disappointment.
