Southwest Connecticut is getting its first taste of wintry weather with a combination of snow, sleet and cold rain. [...] that’s creating slick road conditions. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for interior Fairfield and New Haven counties until 11 a.m. because of slippery conditons on roads and sidewalks. Along the southwest Connecticut shoreline, I-95 is mainly wet, but caution should be exercised on entrance/exit ramps and shoulders where there is some accumulation of slush. The Merritt and Wilbur Cross parkways have a number of spinouts and fender-benders with no serious injures. Because the parkways are farther inland there is more slushy conditions. The railroad is reporting no delays, but has issued its own winter weather advisory urging riders “to use caution when entering and exiting trains, and on platforms and staircases.” Rain is expected late day Wednesday and into Wednesday night as a frontal system approaches and moves quickly through southwest Connecticut. The cold temperatures, however, will allow ski areas - including those in Connecticut - to make snow and finally start their seasons.
