PORTLAND — Sporting Kansas City coach Peter Vermes said the scoreless first leg of the Western Conference finals sets up a second leg that’s “truly a final.” Tim Melia made six saves and Sporting survived Portland’s aggressive attack at home for a 0-0 draw on Sunday. The teams now head to Kansas City for the second match Thursday night. The Timbers outshot Sporting 14-9 and had six shots on target but couldn’t break through.

New building for Pacific Northwest National Lab campus
RICHLAND — The federal government’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory will build a new $90 million energy sciences research building on its Richland campus. A contract to design and construct the building has been awarded to a Houston-based team of Harvey Cleary Builders and Kirksey Architecture. Exhibit A would be the Class 6A state championship game as the undefeated Bulls closed out a 15-0 season as Reid held up his end of the bargain with five tackles and a blocked punt to set up a score as West Boca topped Kissimmee Osceola 26-7 at Pitbull Stadium on the campus of FIU Stadium in Miami. “We came out fast in the first quarter and we needed a big play,” Reid said following the team’s first state football championship in program history.
