The long, flowing hair and small build give her away in the crowd of rodeo competitors. As the teams atop horses enter Amarillo Civic Center Complex each night for the opening introductions at the 20th annual World Championship Working Ranch Rodeo, one individual riding quickly behind her father, Bud, is unique — Mackenzie Higgs, 13, is the lone young female on a team this year. The eighth-grader from Kansas is on the Lonesome Pine Ranch team this week, participating in the branding event.
