Negotations between crab fishermen and seafood buyers on the price for this season’s Dungeness crab have been temporarily delayed, the Oregon Dungeness Crab Commission said today.

A Lane County sheriff’s deputy and his wife have been transferred to a hospital in San Diego to continue treatment for injuries they received in a hit-and-run accident in Mexico. Drew and Michelle Wattier are now at the University of California at San Diego Medical Center.

Pedestrian injured in downtown accident

A 53-year-old Eugene woman was critically injured Friday morning when she was hit by a pickup while crossing a downtown street. According to a Eugene Police Department report, the accident occurred shortly after 8 a.m. when Lisa Marie Leiblien was crossing West Eighth Avenue at Willamette Street.

 

Delays on 126 between Eugene and Florence due to boulder clearing

Motorists on Highway 126 between Eugene and Florence will experience delays today at milepost 22, about four miles east of the Peterson Tunnel, as a contractor for the Oregon Department of Transportation clears boulders and other debris at the site of a recent rock fall.

 

Police identify victim in SUV crash

Deputies have identified the victim of a fatal Thursday evening car crash as 26-year-old Springfield resident Morgan Tara Marie Smither. Smither died at the scene of the accident after her speeding sport utility vehicle veered off River Road and sheared off a power pole.

 

Handyman pleads guilty to killing Oak Grove woman

PORTLAND, Ore. — A 27-year-old handyman with a criminal history has pleaded guilty to murder in the hammer slaying of an Oak Grove, Ore., woman. The Oregonian reports ( http://is.gd/NWVreN ) that Daniel James Seale will be sentenced Dec. 19 to a minimum of 25 years in prison.

 

Benefactor pays off 5 accounts at Tigard toy store

TIGARD — An anonymous benefactor paid off the layaway bills for five customers of the Toys R Us store in Tigard. The general manager says they had hundreds of dollars in outstanding balances. And Wednesday’s layaway angel wasn’t the only one.
