Orion Township awarded grant for new playground at Camp Agawam

The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation and the national non-profit organization KaBOOM! awarded Orion Township with a "Build it with KaBOOM!" grant to be used to construct a playground at Camp Agawam. Construction will take place in October of this year. "Hundreds of kids in Orion Township will have another great, safe place to play thanks to the Ralph C.

 

Man allegedly stabbed by ex-rommate

A 23-year-old Brandon Township man was arrested Saturday afternoon after allegedly stabbing his ex-roommate.Oakland County Sheriff's deputies were called to a residence in the 3800 block of Cherry Street shortly before 2:30 p.m. July 21 on a report of an assault in-progress between two men, one who was attempting to retrieve his personal belongings from the home.

AOne man was arrested and another person is being sought by law enforcement in connection with an armed robbery of prescription opioids last Friday afternoon in Pontiac.The victim, a 50-year-old Pontiac woman, reportedly told Oakland County Sheriff's deputies that she had gone to the area of Perry Street and Eddy Court shortly after 3 p.

An investigation continues into last Friday's shooting death of a Pontiac man, the city's 11th homicide this year.Killed was Kleontay Jamison, 26.According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a call for help and found Jamison lying on the ground on Newman Street at around 12:35 a.

 

Independence Township firefighters to support Muscular Dystrophy Association

The Independence Township Fire Department, Local 2629 will help support the Muscular Dystrophy Association as its members kick off the annual Fill the Boot fundraising campaign to help kids and adults with muscular dystrophy, ALS and muscle-debilitating diseases. Twelve firefighters from Local 2629 will hit the streets and storefronts with boots in hand collecting donations to MDA at 9 a.

 

Arab American and Chaldean Council awards scholarships to area seniors

The Arab American and Chaldean Council recently awarded 30 scholarships to graduating seniors from throughout southeaster Michigan.The Troy-based nonprofit organization announced the winners at its 16th annual golf outing and awards dinner, which raises funds for the scholarships, as well as other youth programs.

 

Researchers work to save endangered butterflies in Springfield Township

A local effort is underway to save a Michigan endangered species: the Poweshiek skipperling butterfly. The Poweshiek skipperling is a brown and orange butterfly with a wingspan of about one inch, found in prairie lands in both wet and dry areas. In Michigan, they are found in prairie fens, which are a type of wet prairie.
