The SEMCOG Transportation Alternatives Program awarded Rochester Hills $481,318 to develop the Auburn Road streetscape. The funding will be used as part of an approximately $10 million project that will upgrade the Auburn Road corridor. Improvements like wide sidewalks, benches, bike racks and street lighting will give the corridor between Culbertson Avenue and Dequindre Road a Main Street spirit.

 

$14M Karmanos cancer center to open in Pontiac's McLaren Oakland Hospital

A new inpatient cancer center will open at McLaren Oakland Hospital in Pontiac next month. The 21-bed oncology unit will be located on the sixth floor of the hospital's west tower. It's a $14 million renovation for the 19,000 square-foot cancer center, which will feature single-bed rooms and an acute care center to help patients avoid trips to the emergency room.

 

Man arrested on suspicion of trying to sell cocaine

Oakland County Sheriff's deputies on patrol in Pontiac apparently interrupted what may have been an attempted drug sale recently, taking a 43-year-old Waterford Township man into custody in connection with the case. According to the sheriff's office, it was shortly after 10 p.m. on July 19 when the deputies were traveling along Perkins Court - an area where there have been multiple complaints lately about loitering, narcotics sales and alcohol use -- when four people were seen near an abandoned house.

 

Rochester police investigating after bank robbery, no injuries reported

Rochester police are investigating after an alleged bank robbery took place in the downtown area. According to a Facebook post on the department's page, the bank robbery occurred at Alliance Credit Union on Main Street. "The suspect has left the area. There were no weapons seen and no one was injured," the post read.

Armed robber hits Subway in Oakland Township

An armed robber made off with approximately $200 in cash from the Subway restaurant in Oakland Township on Sunday evening.The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 30 years old and between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall. He was wearing a red and white baseball cap, an orange construction vest and a dust mask partially covering his face when he entered the store at 4834 Adams Rd.

 

Occupied house shot up in Pontiac, 14 shell casings recovered

Someone shot up a house in Pontiac early Monday morning, where a 5-year-old boy and three adults were inside sleeping.No injuries were reported, but the front window was hit by bullets and broken. Oakland County Sheriff's deputies recovered 14 spent shell casings in the street in front of the house, located in the 100 block of Starlite Lane.

 

Teen arrested after Rochester Hills home break-in

Oakland County Sheriff's deputies say a 17-year-old old boy was arrested Saturday afternoon for allegedly breaking into a Rochester Hills home, believing the family was out of town.The teen, who lives in Orchard Lake Village, is an acquaintance of the family.Deputies were called to the home in the 600 block of Lake Ridge Road at around 2:45 p.

 

Feds visiting Oakland County to study success of jail diversion programs

Oakland County's jail diversion programs will receive national attention on July 23 and 24. Representatives from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will visit the Oakland Community Health Network as part of a national study identifying innovative programs for the development of future pre-booking jail diversion models and initiatives.
