Last 3 defendants sentenced in Tran killing

The three remaining suspects in Indian Land killing of 20-year-old Randy Tran were sentenced to between 2.5 and 17 years in prison after pleading guilty to lesser charges in the case.

 

Bats creeping out kids, staff at Great Falls school

Chester County school officials are working to eliminate a problem with bats in the cafeteria and classroom areas at Great Falls Elementary School.
School district Chief Operations Officer Jeff Gardner talked about the efforts at a recent meeting of the Facility Advisory Committee. The bats were a problem last school year, and the district tried to deal with the creepy creatures this summer.

 

40-year term in child-sex case stymied for 15 years

After awaiting trial since 2002 in the backlogged Sixth District, a Lancaster man was sentenced to 40 years in prison Wednesday for child molestation that spanned a decade and started when the victim was 3 years old.
Guadalupe Guzman Morales, 46, of 1147 Paladin Road, was convicted of criminal sexual conduct with a minor, second-degree criminal sexual conduct and second-degree assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct with a minor.

Motorcycle club raising money for HOPE

The S.C. Widows Sons Masonic Riders Association will host its sixth-annual charity ride and auction fundraiser for HOPE in Lancaster this Saturday.
The event, which plans to raise $10,000, is 1:30-4 p.m. Saturday at HOPE in Lancaster, 2008 Pageland Highway, with the charity motorcycle ride at 10 a.m.
HOPE Executive Director Bekah Clawson said this will probably be the last year the event is held at the location on Pageland Highway, since HOPE and Christian Services have joined together to purchase the Lancaster Bowling Alley.
